About the winery
Located in the historic region of Colares, on the hills of the Sintra mountain range, the Casal Sta. Maria vineyards offer a beautiful landscape overlooking the sea, on the westernmost point of continental Europe. The vines were planted in 2006 by Baron Bodo von Bruemmer, at the time aged 96 years old, to produce great quality wines that convey the unique terroir of this estate, which was his passion, respecting the environment and dignifying the region.

History & Geography
About the terroir, clay-loam soils with large granite outcrops, rich in organic matter resulting from an Arabian stud farm that occupied the land in the 1970s and 1980s. The climate is markedly Mediterranean, of the oceanic sub-type due to the proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, with mild temperatures, fogs and damp north winds that are sometimes strong and punish the vines. The grape varieties planted were carefully selected: Malvasia de Colares, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Petit Manseng. The following red varieties were planted: Ramisco de Colares, Touriga Nacional, Merlot and Pinot Noir, the latter adapting extraordinarily well to Colares.
