Mitolo Wines

Mitolo Wines was established in 1999 by Frank Mitolo and Ben Glaetzer who shared the same vision to create powerful yet elegant McLaren Vale wines.

About the winery
Mitolo's new Tasting Room and Restaurant opened late 2017, set back into the vineyards on McMurtrie Road. Built from more than 10 shipping containers with the original container doors still attached. The Tasting Room includes a large concrete standing bar, where you can choose from three different tasting experiences- all accompanied with a small tasting plate for one. Tasting fee's are redeemable on 2 bottles purchased and the team at Mitolo encourage you to take the wine home to try with friends and family over a meal to see how well the wines compliment food.

History & Geography
After years of working in his family’s potato business, Frank Mitolo started making wine for family and friends. In 1999, after a now legendary 5 hour discussion with winemaker Ben Glaetzer, the pair fashioned a dream of making the ultimate expression of McLaren Vale’s rich provenance of soils. They jotted a six word business plan on the back of a napkin: individuality, integrity, quality, purity, elegance and power. The vineyards are located at the Southern end of McLaren Vale, with close proximity to the Gulf St Vincent. The proximity to the ocean gives the fruit subtle salty, savoury characteristics making them great food wines. These sea breezes temper the vines, giving Mitolo their unique style of bright and generous fruit flavours backed by refreshing acidity and long, savoury tannin's.
