Stony Hill Vineyard

A Napa based winery with a focus on lean, elegant, old world wines.

About the winery
Stony Hill Vineyard ranges from 800 to 1550 feet in elevation in Napa Valley’s Spring Mountain District. Its acres are primarily planted to Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Stony Hill’s historic legacy comes not from big, bold reds that we associate with cult Napa Valley wineries today, but rather, a lean, bright, and brilliantly elegant Chardonnay.

History & Geography
Fred and Eleanor McCrea stumbled across the property that would become Stony Hill Vineyard in the early 1940s. The first Stony Hill harvest came in 1952, and the wine was snatched up quickly by family and friends. By 1954, every bottle was sold via a mailing list, with a waiting list growing by the day. Stony Hill wines have stood the test of time and the changing palates of consumers and remain some of the most respected and highly-sought-after California wines today. Eleanor and Fred have since passed on and in 2018, after three generations of McCrea leadership, the family decided it was time to find a new steward to carry on the Stony Hill tradition. Their longtime friends Ted, Laddie, and Chris Hall of Long Meadow Ranch now continue Fred and Eleanor’s original commitment to wines of impeccable quality and longevity and Stony Hill’s dedication to Old World style winemaking.
