History & Geography
José Ferrer shared the dream of opening a sparkling winery in the new world with his wife, Gloria. Together they first visited Sonoma County in the 1980’s, there was not yet a sparkling wine house in Carneros. The Mediterranean climate, sloping hills, maritime influences were reminiscent of their native Catalonia and they believed the soils had the perfect terroir. Our wines speak to our unique terroir nestled at the base of the Sonoma Mountains and Wildcat Peak. The hills protect us from the strongest of the Carneros breezes and provide alluvial soils that nourish our Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines. Our terroir is exceptional and distinctive -- – the bay breeze, the soft hillside air, the bright sunshine and the cooling fog. Our vineyard practices allow us to capture the essence of our site in every bottle, and our winemaking practices ensure that we do. The genetic diversity of our vines lays the foundation for our unique wine blends that come together to make our remarkable wines.
