History & Geography
Melbury Vale farm was bought in December 2003, by brother and sister, Glynn and Clare, as 28 acres of derelict and dilapidated farmland and buildings, near to Melbury Mill and Cann Mill in the beautiful and historic milling valley along the river Stirkel. Clare and Glynn have restored the land to good management with much determination, hard work and support from friends and family over the years, to make it the varied and thriving rural business that it is today, including 2,000 vines on the south facing hillside. The high altitude of the vineyard, combined with soil of greensands over clay seams at Melbury Vale is not the typical site that one might seek to plant a vineyard, but once established the vines have produced some award winning, niche, artisan wines that are enjoyed by customers.
