Quinta da Raza

"Our ancestral passion is the soul of our wines."

About the winery
With a history that goes back more than four centuries, there are many memories that have crossed generations of the Teixeira Coelho family, who continue to have the same passion and dedication. With a favoured location within the Minho Region, it has a microclimate influenced by the river Tâmega and the Serra do Marão, which intersect the Atlantic winds. Raza’s vineyards grow here with the care and conditions that this unique region so generously offers. With magnificent sun exposure, an altitude of 250 metres and soils of granite origin with clay-schist areas, uncommon in the Vinho Verde Region, the Quinta da Raza vineyard has a unique terroir, with the vineyard noted for the quality of the grapes produced here, ranging from Azal, Arinto, Avesso, Vinhão and Trajadura to Alvarinho. Quinta da Raza aims for a natural balance with the surrounding natural environment, preserving biodiversity and promoting this symbiosis, which is reflected in an integrated environmental production system.

History & Geography
Quinta da Raza is a family business that has gone through four centuries, still to this day in the Teixeira Coelho family, nowadays in the hands of Diogo Teixeira Coelho, the fifth generation. Their commitment and dedication to the vineyard and to wine has fermented this passion and knowledge over time. Diogo Teixeira Coelho and family have an umbilical relationship and an ancestral legacy with the Quinta and the Basto Region where he has always lived. After the death of his grandfather Inácio Xavier de Barros Teixeira Coelho in 1987, he began his career as a winemaker and producer. The potential of the place and his passion for agriculture and the world's wines were some of the reasons driving his commitment, with enthusiasm and extreme dedication to the necessary wine restructuring of the farm the family had managed.
