Churchill's Lodge

The Churchill’s Lodge offers daily tours and tastings. On the tour, guests are given an introduction to port and the Douro Valley.

About the winery
Nestled into a narrow side street of the ancient customs zone of Vila Nova da Gaia, tucked away from the bustle of the Gaia promenade, you’ll find Churchill’s — a working port lodge and visitor’s centre showcasing our world class port and table wines. At the Lodge, we invite guests from around the world to experience the buzz and tranquility of the lodge. Groups frequently break ranks for passing forklifts and new inductees into port find themselves lost in thought amidst the rows of aging barrels in the cavernous vintage tawny storage house. Come for a taste, stay for a tour, and lose yourself in the energy of the port trade in action. On the tour, guests are given an introduction to port and the Douro Valley, and then they are taking through the port aging process – from large vat Reserve and LBV tanks to our private vintage cellar. The tour will end with a port tasting in our modern tasting room overlooking the Douro River.

History & Geography
We are Churchill’s – an Anglo-Portuguese port and Douro wine producer. Johnny Graham founded the company back in 1981 to bring a dry style and a fresh vibe to the traditional world of port. Johnny still makes the wine and runs the company today, with help from the next generation. We are now the last remaining independent British port house, and we plan to keep it that way. In addition, we produce a range of innovative Douro terroir wines that capture the spirit of the region and our beloved vineyard Quinta da Gricha.
