Ostler Wines

Pioneer wine producers of the Waitaki Valley, North Otago, Cool-climate pinot noir on limestone, aromatic whites with minerality

About the winery
New Zealand's last wine region to be developed, the Waitaki Valley, North Otago is a tiny area with less than a dozen producers. An edgy cool climate creates wines of character and minerality - regionally distinct. a meeting point of multiple geologies, ostler pioneered on a pure limestone site to produce their premium Caroline's Pinot Noir (Five consecutive gold gongs in the IWC) and Audrey's Pinot Gris. Other low yielding sites with clay and with alluvial greywacke sub-structure produce the regions distinctive wine signature - intensity, focus, spiciness, and long lingering finishes. Ostler's Cellar door is in the town of Kurow in the old Post Office.
