History & Geography
Located 20 mins from Richmond, there are two vineyards on the estate, 3.5 ha in total. The vineyard benefits from the moderating effect of the Tasman Bay to our north and are protected from severe weather by the surrounding Arthur and Richmond ranges. The vines are dry farmed on Moutere clay gravels, which give the wines a lovely fruit density, minerality and fine tannin. The nature of these soils also removes the necessity for irrigation. The Nelson area is one of New Zealand's sunniest regions and clear skies allow for very cool nights, which results in an expressive flavour development in the fruit and a solid structure of fruit acid. After a fire destroyed the original winery in 2006, a new winery was built in its place. The restaurant and cellar door was also rebuilt following the fire and upgraded again in 2018.
