St Pauli Vineyard

Family-owned vineyard in the heart of Moutere, New Zealand.

About the winery
St Pauli Vineyard is located on 10 hectares in the heart of Moutere, New Zealand, just five minutes' walk from the township of Upper Moutere. It is a boutique family-owned vineyard, operated by Robyn & Gareth Evans. The Evans discovered the vineyard in 2017 when searching for their next adventure and a place to start their family. They were new to viticulture when they arrived on the vineyard, which they have named St Pauli in recognition of the region’s earliest German settlers. The Evans grow and hand-harvest the grapes for their single vineyard wines, which are made and bottled locally. Each vintage is unique in its characteristics and celebrates the beautiful region. They produce Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay & Pinot Noir. The cellar door at St Pauli Vineyard is due to open December 2020.

History & Geography
The vines at St Pauli Vineyard are well established, having been planted in 2001 with Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vines are two-cane and tended by hand. The rich and loamy Moutere clay soil supports their commitment to sustainably producing premium wine; the vineyard is dry-farmed without the need for irrigation. Vines are fertilised by grazing livestock. The Nelson/Tasman region is one of New Zealand's sunniest, with a long temperate season that allows the grapes to develop naturally complex flavours, resulting in wine with full fruity flavours.
