Lawson's Dry Hills Winery

One of Marlborough's most established and respected wine producers

About the winery
Lawson’s Dry Hills was one of just a handful of Marlborough producers in the early nineties. Our first vineyard was planted in 1982 but it was ten years later before the brand was launched. From nurturing the grapes in our vineyards through to bottling, our autonomy gives us flexibility and full control. From our vineyards to our harvester, right through to bottling, we do everything ourselves. Our decision, our control, our wines. The end result? Expressive, award-winning wines that are an authentic representation of the grape variety and the land from which they are grown. We are a small, ‘hands on’ team of knowledgeable, enthusiastic people. A talented yet humble bunch with just a little of the pioneering rebel spirit running through our veins, a sort of ‘what you see is what you get’. There’s no pretence, nothing flashy, just the team and what we need to make wines we like to drink and share. Some have been here nearly 20 years, including our General Manager, Sion, Winemaker

History & Geography
The first vineyard, which surrounds the winery, is Gewurztraminer planted by Ross and Barbara Lawson in the early 1980s. The Lawson's Dry Hills brand itself wasn't launched until ten or so years later and the wines have always been highly respected and much sought after. The company has vineyards throughout the Marlborough across all three sub-regions of the Wairau Valley, Southern Valleys and Awatere Valley. This means we have a wonderful array of different soil types and microclimates that influence the fruit flavours and give us many choices for blending to the Lawson's Dry Hills style.
