Grey Ridge Vineyard

Relaxed and friendly tastings at Cellar Door, or a complete "vineyard experience" in the Accommodation with 4 very different Pinot Noir wines...

About the winery
The Grey Ridge brand is relatively new, and was established in 2015 when Paul and Sue Keast bought and renamed their vineyard. Before purchasing Grey Ridge, Paul and Sue lived in NZ or in 4 countries overseas for 30 years, which certainly encouraged and developed their sense of adventure, but also their love of New Zealand. Becoming vineyard owners and workers has been a challenging adventure as it involved a complete lifestyle change and steep learning curves in every direction - but it's fun! To maintain the mix of kiwi and international exposure that they enjoy, Paul and Sue also invite wine and vineyard lovers to come and stay, and enjoy a "vineyard experience” . Top quality accommodation, a private wine tasting with the owners, and a walk-and-talk tour of the vineyard with Paul, all add up to a unique experience and glimpse behind the scenes of life and work on a vineyard. The Cellar Door is also a friendly experience of tasting, magnificent views and platters if you are hungry.

History & Geography
The Pinot Noir vines were planted in two 2-hectare blocks in 2002 and 2003. The river gravel substrate and the dry Central Otago climate are perfect for producing world class Pinot Noir grapes: they love the hot summers and cold winters, but especially the wide diurnal temperature difference in the late summer when the grapes are ripening. the lack of humidity also helps reduce mildew and bottritus problems. Grey Ridge enjoys a secluded spot, invisible from the road and situated on the edge of Alexandra. It has amazing views of hills and mountains in every direction, and the view of the Dunstan Ranges that can be seen from the Cellar Door is echoed in the ridge line on the the Grey Ridge label. The surrounding mountains protect the vineyard from most of the storms that pass through the region.
