Cable Bay Vineyards Ltd

Exquisite cuisine, luxury accommodation, award-winning wines and breath-taking views.

About the winery
We hand-make site expressive New Zealand wines renowned for their elegance and depth. To achieve this, we observe the vintage and environment, adapt our viticulture to suit the season, harvest when we have optimum ripeness for that vintage, and make the wine with a gentle hand. Our wines are honest illustrations of the vines we tend. In both the vineyard and cellar, we combine time honoured manual techniques with new innovation. Grapes are picked in small parcels by hand on Waiheke Island, and by harvester in Marlborough. They make their way a few meters to the cellar where the transformation into wine begins.

History & Geography
Our first vineyard was planted in 1998 on Waiheke Island and our very first vintage of Chardonnay produced in 2002 won a gold medal at the prestigious International Wine Challenge in London. We were off to a good start! With the vision to hand-craft outstanding wines from the highest quality fruit, grown in small lot vineyards we added more varietals to our portfolio and in 2007 we opened the doors to our stunning venue on Waiheke Island including the winery, cellar door, private event rooms and an award-winning dining room. An impressive private art collection from acclaimed New Zealand artists is on permanent display throughout the building. In 2013, we opened the wine bar and added the Verandah restaurant with an outdoor kitchen and wood-fired oven offering Mediterranean inspired food.
