Aurora Winery & Vineyards

A boutique winery in the Northern mediterranean mountains of Batroun Lebanon

About the winery
We are a family owned mountain winery from the Northern region of Batroun Lebanon, in a small village called Rachkidde. It all started as a passion project back in 2003 when we started producing small batches of wine from our vineyards in a nearby village called Aoura. The name Aurora was inspired by Aoura, as well as the first light in the sky before sunrise, the dawn. The vineyards have been planted in mountainous terraces at 900m altitude overlooking the mediterranean sea and the walnut river, surrounded by a wilderness of oak and olive trees. Batroun is the second largest wine producing region in Lebanon, located 50 km north the coast from the city of Beirut. Today, 25% of Lebanese wine is located in this region. Unlike the Bekaa Valley, wines from our region offer a different wine character that is more typical of mountain terroirs. Specifically, higher acidity, lower alcohol levels, and great freshness among all our wines.

History & Geography
It all started back in 2003, where the Geara family began producing small batches of wine with relatives and locals. They always used to plant vines to produce Arak (The local Anis drink) and other beverages for their own consumption, but it was only until the early 2000s that Aurora was born. After testing the land and understanding the characteristics of our soil, the founder decided to start with french varieties that flourished in our terroir due to the limestone and claylike soils with cool temperatures all throughout the year. Aurora practices ecofriendly and dryfarming techniques since the day it was born and continues to explore and consistently create exciting unique wines.
