Villa Papiano

Villa Papiano, the vineyards above the clouds!

About the winery
The Apennines, forests, vines, light, traces of an ancient sea and footprints of millennial soils. A spontaneous and wild oasis to fantasize about the future. Welcome to Villa Papiano, the vineyards above the clouds. Four siblings working in a symbiotic relationship, organic and sustainable agriculture, indigenous grape varieties, this is a story of dreams, agriculture, viticulture and care. We follow the laws of nature and we feed the plants with light, affection, humic and green compost.

History & Geography
Elevated between Romagna and Tuscany and wedged between province and city on an Apennine ridge of green and ancient soils, Villa Papiano is the juxtaposition of an ancient natural matrix and an otherworldly perception of the fantastic possibilities of the vine. Villa Papiano is a story of the Apennine border and viticulture: the altitude, poor soils, the sedimentary rock formation Marnosa-Arenacea, where the forest ecompasses severe and ideal elements that arise as protagonists. Here, in Modigliana, since 2001 the Bordini family has been observing and intervening to forge a new language of interaction and integration, that encompasses soil, lives, man, past and future. Here we see the Ibola torrent from above, which gives its name to the less populated and more closed valley of Modigliana, a deep, green and sharp valley is the landscape that we survey from our mountain. From our 60 hectares, only 8 grow vines on varied slopes that extend up the southern side of Mount Chioda.
