The Trento-based Girelli family has for several decades produced wine in various different regions of Italy, but it is a corner of Sicily that has captured the hearts of brother and sister Stefano and Marina, who now own the estate. Bucking the trend of southern Italians heading north for work opportunities, Stefano has been travelling regularly to Sicily since the late 1990s, eventually finding and acquiring Feudo Santa Tresa in Vittoria in 2002. Since then the Girellis have worked tirelessly to bring the estate to its full potential, achieving organic status in 2009. Vittoria, a winemaker’s paradise, has the absolutely ideal conditions for low-intervention, organic, sustainable practices which are a passion for Stefano and Marina. The aim is simple for Santa Tresa: produce wines as naturally as possible, using organic grapes and making interesting, typical, quality wines often following ancient Sicilian traditions, which are further improved by modern methods.
