Podere San Cristoforo

Biodynamic winery by the Tyrrhenian Sea: Delightful wines produced in harmony with nature

About the winery
At Podere San Cristoforo we believe it’s important to seek the best agronomic practices in order to assure the highest quality grapes. The biodynamic method offers very simple tools that have been used for a long time in agriculture to make the earth more fertile and to make the vine more resistant. We are convinced that the quality of our wines comes from the respect of our soils and the care of our vineyards. The vineyards of Podere San Cristoforo are located in the mineral- bearing hills of Gavorrano, Maremma Toscana. The property stretches out over 45 hectares, of which 15 hectares are planted with vines, 2 hectares with olive trees and 20 hectares (50 acres) with cereal crops and sunflowers.

History & Geography
In the late 1800s there was a family of farmers with 5 children. The youngest was called Cristoforo. When he was old enough to get married, all the brothers helped him to build his farm: Podere San Cristoforo. In 1901, Cristoforo could take care of his olives, vines and grains, in an enchanted valley a stone’s throw from the Mediterranean. During the Great War, Cristoforo was called to arms and did not return. The property remained abandoned for almost 80 years. Our will was to pay tribute to the work done by our predecessors and to maintain the balance created over the years created by nature.
