History & Geography
Created in 1995 by Eric and Christine NICOLAS, now working with their son Clément, Domaine de Bellivière covers 18 hectares on Jasnières and Coteaux du Loir Appellations. 40 kms north of Tours and the Loire Chateaux, those 2 appellations symbolized the northern limit for vine growing in the Loire valley. Located in Sarthe department, much more known for its “Le Mans 24 hours race” and its “rillettes”, the vineyard is one of the smallest and most unknown in France and yet the perfect setting for the Chenin grape. At the northern extremes of its area, delving for centuries into clay and flint subsoil, the Chenin takes what it needs from the varied geology. Sheltered on the clay soil, Pineau d'Aunis is the very unusual red local varietal used for our red wines. The vineyard is organic and biodynamic cultivated, the only way for us to respect nature and its rythm , but also the team working with us, and to express at best the soil (terroir).
