About the winery
Château Saint Jacques d’Albas is an independent organic family-owned vineyard in the hills of the South fo France, 20 minutes outside of the walled city of Carcassonne. Protected by a rich ecosystem of forest, garrigue and wildlife, we have 26 hectares of low-yielding vines with a history dating back to the 11th century. We make "fruit-first" wines that we feel manifest the potential for the Minervois region, as recognised by the likes of Wine Advocate and Jancis Robinson. Our red wines, based mostly on Syrah and Grenache, are complemented by two whites (principal grapes Vermentino and Viognier), and two Grenache-led rosés. We make around 70,000 bottles in a modern, temperature-controlled winery exported throughout Europe, Asia and North America.

History & Geography
26 Hectares of vine on clay and sandstone soil protected by 60 Hectares of forest and “garrigue” with a rich natural ecosystem of plants, birds, and animals. Mediterranean semi-arid climate with ~300 days sunshine per year and a slight elevation (~100-150m). Topography sloping up from the Mediterranean basin, providing a breezy corridor to control humidity, keep the vines dry and protect from rot (easier to embark on minimalist and organic approach). The site of the vineyard was populated in Roman times, on one of the “Saint Jacques de Compostelle” routes. Our restored 11th century Chapel is built over historic “energy lines” (protecting the vines!) The vineyard was acquired by Nutter family in 2001 and entirely renovated over 15 years with a new winery, underground cellar, concert hall and tourist facilities.
