About the winery
The winery Salzl Seewinkelhof in Illmitz is located in the middle of picturesque lakes and plains of the Neusiedler See – Seewinkel National Park in Burgenland. Currently about 80 square meters vineyards are cultivated around Illmitz, with a focus of 75 % on the production of red wine. The grape variety Zweigelt, typical for the region has emerged as the most important grape variety the years, since the conditions for this variety are ideal in the Seewinkel. In addition to the second local grape variety, the Blaufränkisch, the Carbernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah create an international stylistic. Among the white wines, the Chardonnay is the predominant variety. Grüner Veltlinger, Weißburgunder and Sämling 88 complete the collection. Also dessert wines are essential for a winery in Illmitz. Influences of the Pannonian Plain as well as the small saltwater ponds of the Seewinkel lead to a special terroir, creating wines with elegance, freshness and a mineral scent.
