About the winery

PIONNEERING A DIFFERENT STYLE OF WINES & PHILOSOPHY IN FLEURIE Château des Bachelards’ wines are characterized by a combination of Burgundy’s elegance and Rhône Valley’s gourmandize. Our wines are doubly certified organic and biodynamic - Demeter, which changes dramatically the profile of the wines: we are the only winery of Fleurie, Saint-Amour and Moulin-à-Vent to do so. Our soils have been clean for more than 1years, they are our treasure and we care. Similarly, we do not use any of the so-called “beaujolais winemaking methods” i.e. carbonic maceration, thermovinification etc. and we don't use any chemicals. Our wines are alive. We are also pioneering the following best practices in the region: agroforestry in the vineyard, vegetable garden in permaculture, sheep, bees naturally arrived, herbalism for our biodynamic herbal teas, high trellis in acacia poles, small yields, very old vines in massal selection revealing aromatic precision, hand picking harvest, gravity reception

History & Geography

Château des Bachelards owes its existence to Benedictine monks. It was in fact around the year 1100 that the monks of Cluny Abbey created one of the many daughters of Cluny, Arpayé Abbey and chose to plant his vineyard on the place known as Les Bachelards. They thus draw the enclosure which still exists, with the 17th century house and the outbuildings of the abbey which, it was destroyed during the Revolution. It is a family of notables of the region, the Platets, who bought the house and its vineyard still surrounded by a wall. Exceptionally, the Platet family remained owner of the Château des Bachelards from 1793 to 2007! During this long period, Château des Bachelards is ranked among the best estates in the region, its terroirs are considered remarkable, well located and well exposed in the abundant wine literature of the 19th century and its quality is recognized.
