History & Geography
Our La Esperanza Vineyard was bought by our owners, Jim & Carol Gonzales in 2014. This site experiences significant climate moderation due to heavy lake effect from Lake Michigan. The heavier clay soils can cause struggles in the managing the vineyard, but also allows the fruit harvested to be more concentrated & mineral driven, producing more full bodied wines. The winery vineyard was purchased in 2016 by our owners. Right next to where the tasting room is currently located once stood three migrant cottages. To preserve the history of the land, the wood and other building materials are used all throughout the current tasting room. Being a few more miles inland from Lake Michigan, this vineyard is sandier in soil composition & will start to produce wines that are more lively, with brighter fruit characteristics.
