Simpsons' Wine Estate

At Simpsons', we believe that the finest wines convey a rich sense of provenance and integrity.

About the winery
Simpsons' Wine Estate is located amid the pristine beauty of the Elham Valley – an unspoilt seam in the North Downs where the contours of the land, climate and soil could scarcely be improved upon for viticulture. The Estate offers fully guided tours and tastings, which include a walk around their stunning Roman Road Vineyard, planted on chalk soils, followed by a tour of the state-of-the-art winery to discover the wonders of English winemaking, plus a tasting of current release wines in the elegant Glass House Tasting Room. Simpsons’ Wine Estate boasts the unique attraction of a helter-skelter slide from the tasting room to the winery. We like our events to finish with an unforgettable flourish down the “Fruit Chute” slide!

History & Geography
Ruth and Charles Simpson have been making award-winning wines at their stunning, southern French winery, Domaine de Sainte Rose, since 2002. In 2012 they brought their expertise and savoir-faire back to the UK, establishing Simpsons’ Wine Estate in Barham, with an aspiration to create the finest quality English wines. With 30 hectares of vineyards now established on the iconic chalk terroir of the North Downs and a state-of-the-art winery located mere minutes from the vines, which was opened by the revered Oz Clarke MW. The Estate saw its first harvest in 2016 and since then the winemakers have produced a highly-acclaimed range of English still and sparkling wines, including the Chalklands Classic Cuvee 2016, which won a gold medal and “Best in Class” title in the 2019 Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships and The Roman Road Chardonnay 2018, which was awarded the prestigious “Best in Show” title at the internationally renowned Decanter World Wine Awards 2020.
