History & Geography
Ancre Hill Estates was started in 2006 by Richard and Joy Morris. The original vineyard comprised of about 4 acres but now comprises of 12 hectares after the addition of the Newton Court Farm site. The vineyards are set on sloping hills, with ancient mudstone sandstone soils. Monmouth has a special miso-climate where rainfall is low and high sunshine levels are high, perfect for growing vines. The land has not been used for heavy agricultural farming so is rich in nutrients. Ancre Hill decided to become fully organic/biodynamic in 2009/10 and became fully certified four years later We grow Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Albarino and a small amount of Triomphe.
