About the winery
The wines matured in barrique are bottled 18 months after the vintage. These wines generally need some time to develop their fruit. The best wines are matured in exclusively new, medium toasted Allier oak barrels. The oak is sourced from the French Central Massif. Following on his excellent 1999 vintage, Stodden served up breathtakingly good wines of the 1999 vintage, which were among the best red wines in Germany. Son Alexander is now also involved, since 2001, following on his winemaking studies and practical stints in South Africa and Oregon. The first vintage of the „Next Generation“ Pinot Noir in the 2001 vintag caused quite a stir. Just a few words on the wines of the 2003 vintage, which uniformly impresse with their density and complexity. A highlight is the VDP.Grosses Gewächs from the Herrenberg site, which is to be bottled as long goldcap wine. History & Geography
Jean Stodden, The Redwine Estate, is a small producer of premium quality Pinot Noir made entirely from grapes grown on their 7 ha estate nestled in the Ahr-valley near Bonn Germany. The family has a long wine-making tradition, and has been growing grapes in the Ahr valley since 1578. Alois Stodden started vinifying his own Pinot Noir grapes in 1900. “As Winemaker, we believe that only by tending our wines we can produce the finest wines. Low yields in the vineyards and minimal handling in the winery allow us to create wines of depth, elegance, concentration and character. They are the ultimate expression of the earth from which they are born.”
