Skillogalee Estate

Award-winning winery estate with historic restaurant, cellar door & cottages in the Clare Valley, South Australia

About the winery
The Skillogalee vineyards and winery are located in the picturesque Sevenhill subregion, in the heart of the Clare Valley wine region of South Australia. Our story began in 1970 and we have over 50 years of history producing award-winning wines with the fruit from our beautiful vineyards. The vines are hand-pruned and the fruit is mainly hand-picked. Yields are extremely low but the vineyard produces intense flavours and aromas and deep, richly-coloured reds. Sustainably grown and carefully managed, our grapes allow for wine with full-bodied flavours that have won multiple awards, both locally and internationally. We grow a range of grape varieties include Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay and Muscat.

History & Geography
Our vineyards were originally planted in the early 1970s on what was then, at almost 500 metres above sea level, one of the highest vineyards in South Australia. The rows are planted on the contour in shallow stony dolomite soils primarily on the steep eastern facing slopes. Kangaroos are regular visitors – and significant numbers can be found around vintage time, when the hills are dry and brown, camping in the vineyards and feasting on the succulent fruit. What started as a small family vineyard over 50 years ago has grown into over 125 acres of vineyards on over 300 acres of land surrounded by rolling hills and expansive natural bushland brimming with native wildlife. Still family-owned, the vineyard is driven by our love of high-quality wine that expresses its natural terroir.
