Paracombe Wines

Located on an ancient 1.7 billion year old plateau at Paracombe in the Adelaide Hills, we produce extraordinary wine that honours story and place.

About the winery
The Adelaide Hills is one of the most exciting, premium wine regions in the world. At Paracombe, our cool climate, high altitude, ancient soils, and gentle sunshine hours all come together to provide influence in our wines. The fruit for our wine comes from our own vineyard and specialist local growers. Every step is taken with care to be sustainable with the environment. We grow, make, mature and bottle our wines on site and distribute direct from the winery. This is our unwavering commitment to quality throughout the wine’s journey from the vine to the glass. Our wines benefit from gentle, minimal intervention style of winemaking. The whites reflect crisp purity while the reds see subtle, balanced oak use and cellar maturation prior to release. Our strength is in our diversity and the ability to produce a superb range of fine wine. From sparkling, crisp aromatic whites, to medium, fuller style red wines that are a pleasure to drink and enjoy.

History & Geography
Our beginnings came from seeing opportunity, rising up from the ashes after the devastating 1983 Ash Wednesday bushfires, when our owners and founders Paul and Kathy Drogemuller took over a burnt out former dairy farm. Those early day were rustic and bold. Paul and Kathy were young with no background or experience in grape growing or wine making. They planted their first vines and made wine in a tin shed with a homemade basket press, secondhand milk tanks and crusher. They launched Paracombe in 1992 around the homestead gardens, Kathy was eight months pregnant with their second child, Sarah. And so started the incredible journey of raising not just a young family but a vineyard and winery. The Paracombe story is remarkable. With, son Ben and a passionate team, the Drogemullers expanded the vineyards, designed and built a state of the art winery, underground cellars and stunning cellar door. Today Paracombe is a highly regarded Australian winery with wine exported worldwide.
