About the winery
Our aim at Pikes is to produce wines with character and personality which reflect the variety, the region and vintage conditions. We closely monitor our wines during their formative stage and intervene as little as possible during the vinification process, thereby protecting the integrity of the fruit characters delivered to us by the vineyard. A combination of both modern and traditional winemaking techniques ise used to produce wines of subtlety and style which celebrate the fruit grown in our Polish Hill River Estate. Pikes Cellar Door is open 7 days a week and is located between Sevenhill and Mintaro, a short 5 minute drive from Main North Road. History & Geography
1878 - THE PIKE FAMILY PATRIARCH, HENRY PIKE, EMIGRATES FROM DORSET, ENGLAND TO SOUTH AUSTRALIA ABOARD THE HMS OAKLAND. 1885 - HENRY PIKE ESTABLISHES PIKES DORSET BREWERY, LATER TO BECOME KNOWN AS H. PIKE & SON , WHEN SON WALTER HENRY BECOMES INVOLVED IN THE BUSINESS. THE 1940’S - H. PIKE AND SON BEGIN BREWING SOFT DRINKS, CORDIALS, AND TONIC WATER. 1984 - PIKES POLISH HILL RIVER ESTATE IS PURCHASED BY NEIL, ANDREW, CATHY, EDGAR AND MERLE PIKE. 1985 - PIKES WINES RELEASES ITS FIRST VINTAGE OF POLISH HILL RIESLING AND OPENS ITS CELLAR DOOR. PRESENT DAY - THE ESTATE NOW COMPRISES ALMOST 100 HECTARES OF VINEYARD, HOME TO 20 DIFFERENT GRAPE VARIETIES, INCLUDING A NEW CELLAR DOOR!
