History & Geography

The estate has been in the family since 1945 when Giudo Masini fell in love with the land and acquired the property. Guido sold grapes for a bit but he never imagined the 130-acre property would be anything more than a relaxing, country retreat for his family. His daughter Laura and her oldest son Jacopo both had something else in mind for this picturesque estate nestled in the rolling Tuscan hills. In 1988 Laura transformed the property’s cluster of ancient cottages into an agriturismo and also set her sights on improving the existing vineyards. Jacopo built on his mother’s work ten years later by replanting and restructuring the vineyards and bottled the very first vintage under the Querceto di Castellina brand name in 1998. Today, Laura heads the vineyard’s culinary program at the estate. Jacopo, along with his American wife Mary direct the wine, hospitality, marketing and PR sides of the business. Jacopo’s younger brother Filippo manages the agriturismo.
