Baglio di Pianetto

Unexpected Sicily to be enjoyed sip by sip

About the winery
The first twenty years of Baglio di Pianetto tell the story of a great and successful quest. In the two estates of Santa Cristina Gela and Val di Noto, Conte Paolo Marzotto fulfilled his dream of producing wines capable of expressing two different and unique Sicilian terroirs, applying all the wine-making savoir faire of the great French chateaux: a high quality wine production striking the perfect balance between tradition and innovation.

History & Geography
The estate of Contrada Pianetto (Santa Cristina Gela), is a veritable kaleidoscope of micro-climatic conditions: exposure, altitude, atmospheric temperature range and strong ventilation all come together to create the precious interplay between plant and soil which gives our wines their freshness, complexity, elegance and longevity. The estate of Baroni, is a corner of Sicily where rainfall is infrequent and occurs predominantly in the winter. The mild temperatures – both in winter and in summer – protect the regularity of the plant’s production cycle, which consistently produces abundant harvests. In the daytime, the sun heats up the soil, the heat is subsequently released at night and mitigated by the cool sea breeze. The soil is varied in composition, slightly inclined and mostly lean.
